Training Opportunities
Kellogg Institute for Training and Certification of Developmental Educators. In operation since 1980, the Kellogg Institute is the nation's oldest continuous advanced training program for developmental educators and learning skills specialists. The program consists of two components: 1) an intensive, four-week summer residency and 2) a supervised practicum following the residency and carried out at the participant's home campus. The Kellogg Institute is housed at the Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. www.ncde.appstate.edu
Technology Institute for Developmental Education (TIDE). The TIDE is hosted by developmental educators for developmental educators. Held for five days on the campus of Texas State University in the summer, thirty
participants will have the opportunity to learn how to use technology both professionally and instructionally in a low key, relaxing atmosphere. Experts include: David Caverly, Lucy MacDonald, Rick Sheets, Todd Phillips, and others. David Caverly can be contacted at DCaverly@TxState.edu
Winter Institute for Learning Assistance Professionals. This one week institute occurs yearly in early January in Arizona. Founded by Drs. Martha Maxwell and Frank Christ, the Institute serves a small number of registrants who experience a highly interactive learning environment with nationally known mentors and facilitators. This web site is dedicated exclusively to Learning Support Centers in Higher Education. LSCHE is a joint venture of Paradise Valley Community College and the University of Arizona. The site also includes a conference calendar, bibliographies, and related center resources -- all focused on the needs of learning support center personnel.
