Learning Assistance Program Standards and Guidelines. The Council for the Advancement of Standards has released national standards and guidelines for the field of learning assistance. NADE is a member of this council. Representatives of NADE, CRLA, ACPA, MCLCA, and other national associations were involved with the creation and revision of this document. This CAS document compliments other sets of national standards such as the NADE Self Evaluation Guidelines, NYCLSA Statement of Ethics and General Guidelines for Learning Assistance Programs, and CRLA's Tutor Certification Guidelines. Crossroads in Mathematics: Standards for Introductory College Mathematics Before Calculus. This document was developed by a coalition led by the American Mathematical Association for Two Year Colleges (AMATYC) with involvement by members from other organizations including NADE. This document presents standards that are intended to revitalize the mathematics curriculum preceding calculus and to stimulate changes in instructional methods so that students will be engaged as active learners in worthwhile mathematical tasks. While student affairs has a long tradition within U.S. postsecondary institutions, it does not have the same tradition at institutions in all countries. NADE has endorsed the document and encourage its members to consult it along with other standards as they evaluate their programs.
